The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 was passed by the Parliament in May, 2012, to strengthen the legal provisions for protection of children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
Such protection to the child is guaranteed for the first time under this Act in India and the related offences being dealt and defined clearly under the said Act.
The Act also defines a child as any person below the age of 18 years, thus, providing protection to all the children below the age of 18 years irrespective of the gender of the victim, from the offences such as, sexual assault, sexual harassment and from the acts related to pornography.
